Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, PLC is a major
sponsor of the event and was awarded the Largest Corporate Team award in 2001 through 2005,with several hundred employees and friends participating. Premier Orthopaedics’ Dr. Daniel J. McHugh is the Race’s Medical Director.

Osteoporosis Prevention
Osteoporosis, or bone loss, is a serious condition affecting millions of men and women. The condition is treatable, but must be diagnosed and treated in order to halt its progression. Bone density screening tests have been shown to be an effective first step in the process. Premier Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine frequently offers these tests on a pro bono basis at health fairs and employer-sponsored health events. While the vast majority of screening results document that patients are not currently at risk for osteoporosis, these test do identify potential problems. Patients with these results are able to seek treatment earlier than they would otherwise have.

Community Lecture Series

Physicians from Premier Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, PLC frequently speak on health related topics in schools, with community health organizations, and with professional gatherings for physicians, case managers, etc. Topics have included:

•    Exercising with Arthritis
•    Know Your Knees

•    Weight Training Principles

Youth Athletic Team Sponsorships
Exercise and physical activity help prevent healthcare problems resulting from misuse or disease of the body. Importantly, the benefits of athletic activity increase significantly when individuals learn to participate at an early age. This is why the physicians of Premier Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine have sponsored many youth athletic programs through local YMCAs, Civitan, the West Nashville Sports League, and the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. These programs help young people learn the importance of athletic activities that will last a lifetime. In 2001, the Foundation also purchased the “Premier Orthopaedics Cup” and donated it to the Greater Nashville Hockey Association (GNASH) to be awarded to its championship team. In addition, the Foundation sponsors a Book Award that is given annually to selected graduating seniors in middle Tennessee high schools who have exemplified academic and athletic excellence, in addition to significant community service.
